Looking to buy a new mobile SIM but do not have
Aadhar number or document? No need to worry as the Supreme Court has directed
the telecom companies to start accepting other documents such as passport,
driving license and voter ID card instead of Aadhar card.
These instructions are to be followed by the
telecom companies on the immediate basis to ensure that consumers are not
inconvenienced while taking a new connection.
The apex court rapped the central Government for
making Aadhar card mandatory for buying a new mobile connection and link
existing mobile numbers with Aadhar card.
So far the Supreme Court has made it clear that
Aadhar card is not mandatory for getting new SIM cards until the court takes a
final view.
This move has relieved NRIs and foreigners visiting
India because most of them do not have Aadhar number or card and it becomes difficult
for them to buy a new SIM.
Mobile companies have been asking their customers
to link their existing mobile number with Aadhar card by bombarding SMS, calls,
messages.
