China develops mosquitoes to fight Zika virus

China has always been forward thinking and one step ahead also not just forward way thinking but out of the box thinking and this time they are again trying to prove it by developing mosquito which will fight the Zika virus which is a deadly virus for pregnant women’s as it affects the brains of the fetus by shrinking their brains.

The only thing i can say is that Zika virus is the most dreaded word at this time in the health sector and it should be tackled very quickly before it becomes a big monster and affects the population worldwide.

Currently the researchers in China are working out on the pilot field study using mosquitoes infected with bacteria in the South China.

One of the head researcher and professor from Sun Yat-sen University has told that it is expected that if it successful then they would be able to cut down the local mosquito population which could be the cause of spreading Zika virus. As the mosquitoes will be infected with Wolbachia bacteria and released at 2 -3 trial sites in Guandong.

This is the same who had earlier managed to lower the mosquito population by 90% last year using the same technique and helped in curbing the dengue outbreak.

How does this Work?

This team has made some arrangement to make changes in the male mosquitoes so that they do not bite and after that done some changes in female mosquitoes by infecting them with Wolbachia and after that they become infertile so it becomes an automatic process which reduces the population of mosquito.

According to the report of National Health and family planning commission of the PRC so far there are zero cases reported in China to date.

So far it is the great attempt what these Chinese people are doing and i think they will be successful in this and hope that this technique will be helpful for the rest of the world.
