Honda in India recalls 13700 bikes to fix starting issue
Honda is the world’s largest two wheeler maker which has recalled its 3700 units of CBR 150R and CBR 250R bikes manufactured between July 2014 and June 2015 from the Indian market so that it can rectify its defective wiring of the starter relay switch assembly unit.
The Indian arm of Honda that is Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India has recalled its product on such a large scale for the second time as earlier it recalled its 1500 units of CBR 250R bike in 2012 due to defective brake system.
The Company has released a statement in which it said that the recall process will start in the middle of August 2015 as a precautionary measure to check and replace starter relay switch, if the vehicle belongs to the defective lot.
According to the Honda they suspects that the sealant may have been applied incorrectly during assembly of the starter switch and it may increase the resistance across the main fuse potentially interrupting the bike’s battery voltage to the electrical system. This in turn can cause the engine to either not start or stall while riding. In extreme cases fire can also be caused to increased resistance at the main fuse which is dangerous for the rider.
Fortunately no such incident has been reported so far in any bike manufactured by them in India. The Company further added that they will replace the faulted part without any charges irrespective of the warranty status of the vehicle across India network.
This is not the first time that the giant company like has recalled its products for corrections as earlier also Yamaha has recalled more than 56000 units of its Ray automatic scooter in 2013. Suzuki also recalled 74 units of its GSX series bikes.
