Are we ashamed of speaking Hindi

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that Hindi was not getting due prominence in various sphere of life despite of the fact that nearly 75% of India’s population either speaks or understand Hindi language.

I think he is speaking right as Hindi should be given due prominence which it deserves.

On Monday he said that we have not given the kind of respect we should have given to Hindi. Some intellectuals still continue to promote English. He is right as most of us thinks that if a person is speaking in Hindi he is not much educated but if he or she speaks in English he is very much intelligent and smart.

But it is not true because if a person is not able to speak in its own language and very much fluent in English does not mean that he or she is well educated as even a sweeper in Europe speaks in English it does not mean that he or she is very much intellectual.

Rajnath Singh was addressing people at a function to commemorate Hindi Divas. According to him Hindi language acts as bridge between several parts of India.

He also explained how big technology firms have been stressing to promote Hindi in a big way and according to a survey among all languages the maximum 94% content is generated in Hindi while only 19% content is generated in English.

He is very much clear about the fact that that they are promoting Hindi for commercial reasons but they know the reach of Hindi language.

The president of India Pranab Mukherjee also attended the function and he said that Hindi was a link between the country’s civilization and modern progress. And he hoped that it would soon be recognized as the official language of United Nations.

Now the time has come that most of the educated people in India thinks that if you are not able to speak in English you are not well educated and feels ashamed to speak in English in offices or meetings. Most of the time they fun of people who are not able to speak fluent English which is not right as this is our own language.

There are so many countries where they do not speak I English and still and progressing well so we should also speak our own language. Knowledge of other languages is not bad but we should promote our own language and should not be feeling ashamed of speaking it in front of anybody.

This is for the first time that any home minister and president has appreciated the value of Hindi and wants to give back its due prominence.
